The General Command of Ras Al Khaimah Police,  represented by the Penal and Correctional Establishment  Department, celebrated International Inmate Day, also known as "Nelson Mandela International Day", observed annually on July 18. The event honors the contributions of Nelson Mandela in promoting a culture of peace and freedom and aligns with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy aimed at developing social welfare programs for inmates of the Penal and Correctional Establishment. It seeks to support, rehabilitate, and reintegrate them with their families and the society, enabling their return to dignified society life after serving their legal sentences, fostering a sense of dignity, justice, and equality without discrimination.

The event was attended by Colonel Thiyab Ali Al Harsh, Director of the Penal and Correctional Establishment Department; Major Abdulrahman Al Haar, Head of the Rehabilitation and Reform Section; Emirati author and novelist Abdullah Al Nuaimi; representatives of charitable organizations; a number of officers and staff members of the Penal and Correctional Establishment; as well as inmates, their families, and children. The celebration included recreational activities for the inmates’ children and honored the charitable organizations supporting humanitarian and philanthropic efforts aimed at bringing joy to inmates and their families. Honorees included Emirates Charity Association, Emirates Red Crescent, and Al Ihsan Charity Association. The event aimed to inspire inmates to renew their hope in regaining their freedom and returning to a dignified life, and to become positive contributors to their families and societies, so that all may enjoy security and well-being.

As part of the event, two documentary films were shown to the attendees, illustrating the efforts made by the state and the Ministry of Interior to provide humane care and rehabilitation for inmates in the Penal and Correctional Establishment . The documentaries highlighted a range of programs designed to support the inmates’ reintegration into society in a positive manner, ensuring they live with dignity and freedom both inside and outside the Penal and Correctional Establishment, even after serving their legal sentences, and leave a constructive impact that promotes security, stability, and social peace.
